ACT -- one of two widely accepted college entrance exams (the other is the SAT), the ACT assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work in English, math, reading, and science. An optional writing test measures skill in planning and writing a short essay. Test questions are based on what is taught in the high school curriculum. According to ACT, Inc., the ACT is required by more four-year colleges than any other admission exam.  Students or their parents have to register and pay for the ACT themselves.  There are several testing dates a year, and many testing sites.  Students need to look at those dates and at Early Admission Dates for the colleges they are thinking about attending.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunches, please email Ms. Salter at wsalter@metter.org to ask about a fee waiver for the ACT or the SAT.

Advanced Placement (AP) Course -- many high schools offers one or more advanced placement (AP) courses, which are designed to be taught at college-level thinking and analyzing, allowing students to broaden your knowledge, as well as potentially earning college credit (if you score high enough on the advanced placement subject test). If you are home-schooled -- or if your high school does not offer AP classes, it still may be possible to take at least a few courses through independent study. Some students prefer choosing select AP courses as an alternative to enrolling in an International Baccalaureate program.  If you are interested in taking AP courses, please email Ms. Terri Underwood at tunderwood@metter.org to find out which classes are available.

ASVAB - - The ASVAB is scheduled for 11th Graders on 10/22/08 at MHS.  It is also offered every Tuesday at the Recruiting office in Statesboro.  The ASVAB is a free test that helps students decide on a career path.  It examines a student's interests and ability and pinpoints careers that would be best suited for that particular student. It can help a student choose courses for college and make personal career decisions. Although the ASVAB is given by the military, a student's ASVAB scores would only be released to the military if a student chooses for them to be.  Typically, the ASVAB is given to 10th or 11th grade students.   Study Guide:  http://www.march2success.com/

End of Course Test (EOCT) - Any student enrolled in and/or receiving credit for an EOCT course, regardless of grade level, will be required to take the EOCT upon completion of that course.  a student's EOCT score is averaged in as 15% of the final course grade. The student must have a final course grade of 70 or above to pass the course and earn credit toward graduation.  Study materials:  https://www.gsfc.org/main/ga411info/eoct.cfm?GUID= or http://www.gatest.com/front/state.php?state=GA

Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) All students seeking a Georgia high school diploma must pass the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) in four content areas as well as the Georgia High School Writing Assessment. These assessments ensure that students qualifying for a diploma have mastered essential core academic content and skills. PSAT/NMSQT -- the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a practice test that helps students prepare for the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). The PSAT is free for 10th Graders in Georgia. However, 11th graders are encouraged to take it because only Juniors can apply for the National Merit Scholarship Program if they have high scores on the PSAT.  The price of the PSAT is around $13.00 for any student not in the 10th grade, and there are only 25 spots for Juniors to take the test at MHS this year.   If you are an 11th grader who wants to take the PSAT, please email Ms. Salter at wsalter@metter.org.  Study Guide: http://www.gacollege411.com/TestPrep/SAT.asp

SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) -- one of two widely accepted college entrance exams (the other is the ACT), the SAT is a test of developed language skills and mathematical reasoning abilities, designed to assess general thinking and problem-solving abilities. (This test was formerly called SAT I.)  Students or their parents have to register and pay for the SAT themselves.  There are several testing dates a year, and many testing sites including Georgia Southern.  Students need to look at those dates and at Early Admission Dates for the colleges they are thinking about attending.  Many students will take this test a number of times.  The SAT also has scholarships linked to it, high scoring students will be recognized in the 1500/1800 club, and the STAR student is chosen, in part, by SAT scores. If you qualify for free or reduced lunches, please email Ms. Salter at wsalter@metter.org to ask about a fee waiver for the ACT or the SAT.  Study Guide: http://www.gacollege411.com/TestPrep/SAT.asp or http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/prep_one/prep_one.html
